Writing

My library book
I got it from the library it's mine for 2 whole weeks
I tucked it in my bag
But I keep taking sneak peeks,
to check if it's still there.
I cannot wait to get home and curl in my chair
I open it up and let my imagination flow,
It takes me to a time long ago.

I love reading!

IE Workshop

On Tuesday this week I lead a workshop all about the learning I have done on my IE. I had four kids with me that were very happy and loved learning about global warming.  We played a kahoot quiz after learning about what I have found out. A kahoot is an online website that you make and play the quiz. I created a Kahoot to share my learning. It's all about global warming. What it is, how we can help and some facts. You can play in online click here. https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/f2385ba7-2d93-448e-b5e1-0c2a779970a3

9 Year old Makes Beautiful Care Packages for Homeless Women
I  am very lucky to have a home, a family and food because some people are not as lucky as me. In California, there are many homeless people. One lovely girl named Khloe addressed this problem and was very sad. She had found out there were people living on the streets and asked her mum about it.  She is doing her bit to help by sewing care packages for the homeless woman on the street.  Khloe fills them up with things like soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and other personal care items. She sews them with her grandmother who together learned how. She started her own charity, Khloe Kares. Khloe personally takes the care packages to homeless women in the streets around her California neighborhood, handing them out.  From this text, I learnt to respect everyone and to care for the people not as lucky as us. I learnt that we shouldn’t be scared of certain types of people because they are all humans.  The main idea of this text is that we all need to respect each other and show love, care and compassion.

I think that she is so cool and he should be very happy and celebrate her journey. I wonder how many people she has helped? I got my info from http://www.goodnewsnetwork.org/9-year-old-makes-beautiful-care-packages-homeless-women/

My Writing

The New Girl
It was a bright, frosty morning. The pavement glistened like a carpet of crushed diamonds in the early morning sunshine. Mary was walking to the bus. Her blonde hair swayed side to side as she walked. She remembered yesterday that her teacher said there was going to be a new student coming to her school today and she was happy to hopefully have a new friend. The engine of the old bus moaned as it pulled over and the tyres screeched as it stopped right in front of Mary. She stepped up and walked inside the old bus. Inside the bus, there were many school kids ready for school. A range of different kids like a party mix packed with different lollies.

Mary’s blue eyes circled the bus until she saw the meanest boy in school, Louis. Beside him stood his partner in crime, Harry. Harry and Louis saw that their seats that they had been sitting at each day had been taken by a small, shy girl. She had brown curly hair hanging softly on her shoulders and dark hazel eyes staring at the ground. Today was her first day. She was the new girl, Clara. She had no idea of what was about to happen and the fury building within the boys. The two tempered boys walked furiously to Clara and began to yell. The two boys had the eyes of all the kids in the bus all looking deep into their cold hearts. They yelled and yelled. Clara began to cry and fat tears fell down her face. They rolled down her neck and softly dropped onto her clothes.

Mary looked deep into her eyes and she could see the sadness and the pain the boys were giving her. Clara tucked up into a ball not wanting the kids in the bus to see her. She was having a really unpleasant day. Mary’s hair stood on end, a shiver raced down her spine and a lump came to her dry throat. Her bright blue eyes widened and she threw up both her hands and open her mouth. “Now hold on a minute. Isn't it strange that she was sitting there first and you come and try to make her move!” The boys had heard Mary blather on and were very shocked. They had been at the same school together since they were little but they had never seen this part of her. They were very afraid of this part of her. The most of the kids on the bus believed in what Mary was doing and all stuck up for the new shy girl Clara.

Clara untucked from her ball and now had stopped crying. The bus driver Mr Wilson had then realized something was up. He read the body language of the kids on the bus. He saw the red blotchy eyes Clara wore on her face. He saw the boys angrily standing with their arms crossed. Mr Wilson moved the two boys up to the front and then went back in his seat and began to drive down the street to school. Mary sat down beside Clara. She was very proud of herself for taking a stand and doing what she believed in. The two girls sat in silence listening to each other's hearts beating and the wheels on the bus rotating around and around. They both turned heads and looked up straight into each other's eyes and a wide smile appeared on their faces. That is when they knew they were going to be best friends forever and that is exactly what happen.

School Ambassador

Today 23 people came to visit our school.  I am a school ambassador leader so I got to talk to them about what stands out for me in my learning. It is so cool listen and talking to the awesome people coming to our school to help improve theirs. I love my job! Mr Fraser, Mrs Hull and I talk to the schools. Then we show them around the school. The schools that came today are all from Auckland.

Man Goes 555 Days Without a Heart

I am very lucky to be healthy and happy because some people are not as lucky as me like. Like Stan Larkin, 25 year old man that has lived without 555 days without a heart. He had a heart problem and had lots of help. He has lived since 2014, wearing a backpack which holds a device powering an artificial heart in his chest. This has helped him to live a relatively normal life. Stan had to live with two tubes coming out from his side below his rib cage and connected to the 5.8kg device in the backpack he wore. Now he is very lucky to have a new heart and can live normally again.

Words you need know the meaning to understand the text

Artificial
Something made or produced by human beings, a copy of something natural.

Heart
A hollow muscular organ that pumps the blood through the body.

Device
A thing made or adapted for a particular purpose, mostly mechanical or electronic equipment.

I think that he is so cool and he should be very happy and celebrate his journey. I wonder if anybody has something similar to Stan? How long can you live like Stan with the artificial heart? I wonder what heart problem he had because in the article it does not say? I got my info from http://kiwikidsnews.co.nz/man-goes-555-days-without-heart/

Matariki

If you have ever look up at the night sky you would have noticed that there are many beautiful stars. There is one beautiful group of stars called the Matariki. These stars are very special because they only come out on a certain time and you can only see them in New Zealand. They disappear from the night sky in late April and appear again late May or early June. When the stars appear we know that the new moon has risen and it is the beginning of the year (there is much to celebrate). Matariki symbols the Maori New Year. We can celebrate matariki in many ways it is a time for sharing family stories, learning about the land and how they look after it, learning about how people use the stars in the past and plant trees/winter crops. Matariki is a time to make plans for the future and to forgive and forget problems of the past, it's a time to enjoy being with our family and friends. An interesting fact is that Matariki has two meanings, both are the cluster of stars. Mata Riki means Tiny Eyes, and Mata Ariki means Eyes of God.

The dates for Matariki
2016 – 6 June
2017 – 25 June
2018 – 15 June

I think that Matariki is so cool and it is something that we should all know about and celebrate.I wonder if any other countries have a similar tradition? There was no words that I found tricky in the article. I got my info from http://www.kiwifamilies.co.nz/articles/matariki-maori-new-year/

IE: Being publish in upstart

I have been for the last term researching all about global warming. I know that it is something that we all need to know about and the most important people that need to know are the kids. That is why I chose to publish my poster in upstart. Upstart is a kids magazine that is a great way to share learner. Upstart is in the magazine that is read all around New Zealand! I have sent it many things before. This time, I sent in my global warming poster and I won a collaging set.  It is so cool thinking that my poster is being read all around New Zealand right now and I have hopefully helped and done my bit to stop global warming. I have been using my collaging set and it is so fun.
