Cooking

Today we made our dish for a cooking comp we entered in we made Gyros which is like an open sandwich It looked awesome into we ate it. Maggi Kitchen Showdown is a cooking competition where you get to show off your cooking skills to the country! Teams must be between the ages of 11-15, with two to four students per team. Each team must create their very own recipe, with a few key requirements. The meal must: be a MAIN course meal and be able to serve a family of 4 people (2 adults + 2 children) cost a maximum of $20 to make include the use of one MAGGI product be able to be made and plated up in 50mins.  I the recipe for what I made the is:

Our Gyros served with rice!!

Ingredients:
Dip:
  • And opened can of Reduced Cream
  • 1 half packet of MAGGI Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 Whole Avocado sliced then mashed
  • A Teaspoon of lemon juice
  • Half a diced tomato
  • Half a diced Red onion
Gyros:
  • 1 Tablespoon of Olive Oil
  • 2 pieces Schnitzel Steak
  • 4 pieces Lebanese Bread
  • Half a cut tomato
  • Half pack of washed  Rocket
  • Half a sliced Red Onion
The rice:
  • A Teaspoon of lemon juice
  • One cup of Rice
  • One cup of Water
To season:
  • Pinch Salt
  • Sprinkle of Pepper
  • 2 Teaspoons Lemon juice
Equipment:
  • Wooden Chopping board (To serve on)
  • Rice Cooker
  • Large Pan



How to Cook

  1. Pour the one cup of rice into rice cooker.
  2. Add one cup of water into the rice cooker and make sure it is all even and level.
  3. Start the rice cooker so that it is cooking while you are doing other jobs.
  4. Put in your 4 pieces Lebanese Bread in a oven at 180℃ until a little puffy and warmed through (about 15 minutes).
  5. Heat oil in a large frying pan, make sure it is spread all around.
  6. Add the schnitzel in the pan.
  7. Cook for approximately 1 minute on each side. Or until browned  
  8. Make sure the schnitzel cools before slicing into thin strips.
  9. Cut the tomato In half.
  10. Dice one half of the tomato into small pieces.
  11. Cut the other half into four equal pieces.
  12. Cut the onion in half.
  13. Dice one half finely.
  14. Cut the other half into slices
  15. Open can of reduced cream and pour into big bowl
  16. Mix through the Maggi Onion Soup Mix.
  17. Gently mix and fold the mashed avocado into the Cream Mix.
  18. Once nicely mixed in, add the diced tomato and diced onion and gently fold it all in.
  19. Cover with glad wrap and put in fridge until needed.
  20. If the Lebanese breads are puffy remove them from the oven (If not leave a bit longer)
  21. Put a bowl in the middle of each one so that the middle isn't puffy but the outside is.
  22. once rice is done stir it around and leave it with the lid off.
  23. Remove Guacamole from fridge.
PLATING:
  1. Put your Lebanese Breads on your plate or chopping board.
  2. Spread a thick layer of the Guacamole evenly onto the  Lebanese Bread
  3. Place the schnitzel steak on top of the Guacamole (equal amounts on each).
  4. Place on your Sliced onion.
  5. Place a slice of tomato on the side of each Lebanese Bread.
  6. Sprinkle with pepper and a pinch of salt
  7. Drizzle of with lemon
  8. Add rice to the plate.
